You can as well post your pre/post race impressions here ************************************* A bit of history : As you know, the first round of the 1991 IMSA Camel GT championship was actually a 24hr race on the Daytona Road Course. We've chosen to run a 3hrs event to have a bigger and stronger field!! In 1991, the Nissan armada was a dominant force for the bookmakers, but the always reliable Joest Racing emerged as a brillant winner with its ageing Porsche 962. Nissan managed to secure 2nd spot nevertheless, while Hotchkiss Racing took an unexpected 3rd in what proved to be a high-attrition race. Let's hope that the HSO event will be as exciting, with a 20+ cars field expected, it ought to be good fun indeed ! | So being that this race has become a sprint then, will it count for regular season sprint points? |

They ran Eagles in Formula One and at Indy through the late 60's, then moved on to some more American-focused racing in the 70's-80's. They were hired by Toyota to represent the Japanese brand in the IMSA GTO series in 1987, and then stepped up to GTP racing, first with a Toyota Group C car and then with an all-American built chassis. To sum it up, the workforce and the chassis were American, and the money and the engine were Japanese! |
True, true, but all Toyota racing matters in the USofA were in the hands of Toyota Racing Developments (TRD) which was based in the USA and employed mostly Americans. So they were very much American cars imho, much more than a Ford Escort or a Cortina if you ask me . |
Ya I met Dan in '85 at Monterey..I'm about 6'3" and he was quite a bit taller..No wonder they had to put a plastic bubble on the roof of the famed GT-40 Ford at Lemans.. I was also noticing a picture of Graham Hill up there..He,My Dad,Paul Newman-and another driver I can't remember, attempted to break the 24Hr Closed couse speed record at The Bonneville Salt Flats..But the Ferrari Broke..

Drank a beer with Paul Newman once at Laguna..Didn't know he was into Chug-a-luggin'! _________________ Sebring 1985,Milt Sr. in the Marty Hinze Porsche 935 K-3 50th place-Suspension Damage.. |
